Because of the COVID-19 crisis, the city of Rijeka, European Capital of Culture 2020, postponed its traditional Fiumanka regatta from June to September. “If we can’t have sailing boats regatta in the bay, we can have them on the square”, said the owners of a souvenir shop that keeps Croatian handicrafts alive. Together with primary school children, they made colourful paper boats and decorated the main square.
“Bringing together so many young citizens in such an engaging way opens our hearts and keeps us inspired. Rijeka needs to be awakened. It has been dead for too long”, said the shop owners.
