High rise buildings can severily impact the experience of historic city centres, blocking the view and having an influence on general liveability and traffic around them. The British heritage organisation Historic England addresses this issue, publishing an update to their draft Advice Note which acts as a guide for planning and design of tall buildings. The Advice Note raises attention to historic context and offers guidance on preserving the historic surroundings when tall buildings are considered in delicate areas.
The note is currently open to public consultation and is expected to be published in its definitive form this summer.
