Welcome to the CliP-ComE Training: Energy Efficiency for Historic Houses.
7–9 October 2025 | Valley, Germany.
We’re excited to welcome you to this hands-on, three-day training dedicated to sustainable solutions for historic estates, castles, and country houses. Let’s take concrete steps toward future-proof heritage management—together.
About the training
The sustainable development of historic estates, castles, and manors requires a tailored approach, specialist knowledge, and a deep understanding of heritage-specific characteristics. These buildings often have high energy demands and complex construction challenges. At the same time, not all owners or administrators have access to the necessary networks, expertise, or resources to act effectively and strategically.
From 2 to 4 September 2025, a hands-on, in-depth training course will take place in Germany for owners, managers, and professionals who want to take concrete steps towards more energy-efficient heritage management.
This free, three-day training offers a unique opportunity to take concrete, practice-based steps toward sustainable, future-proof heritage management.
This training is part of the European project CliP-ComE (Climate Protection Competences for European Historic Houses), supported by the Creative Europe programme. It is organised by, among others, the Burghauptmannschaft Österreich and the European Historic Houses (EHH) – a European foundation representing over 50,000 privately owned historic houses across Europe, including castles, estates, and manors.
Although these buildings are often of great historical and cultural value, private owners regularly fall between the cracks. They are usually not part of formal heritage networks that provide support and knowledge exchange. As Gerald Wagenhofer, one of the trainers, explains:
“This training helps owners of historic houses make realistic and effective improvements — even in complex buildings where standard solutions fall short.”
The CliP-ComE project aims to bridge this gap by offering tailored, practice-based support — not with abstract policy visions, but with directly applicable knowledge and advice on how to improve energy efficiency without compromising heritage values.
What You Will Learn
Why this training?
The challenge of making heritage buildings climate-resilient and energy-efficient is urgent. At the same time, this must be done without damaging their historic integrity.
