European Heritage Days 2021 in Cyprus

From mid-August to early November, thousands of “Open Heritage” events have taken place across Europe during the European Heritage Days 2021. Take a look at one of the short video impressions of those events: a visit to the walking tour “Old Quarters, New Lives”.

Antigoni Michael organised the walking tour “Old Quarters, New Lives” in Nicosia, Cyprus, during the European Heritage Days. For this video report, she interviewed historian and educator Marios Epaminindas.

The walking tour takes its participants past heritage sites in Nicosia. It aims to highlight stories and voices that are usually unheard, Marios Epamindas explained. Therefore, people of migrant backgrounds are given the opportunity to tell how they are connected to these heritage sites.

Nicosia was and will be multiculturous and we were in the very happy position to collaborate all togehter, both the communities of Cyprus, but also the migrants of Cyprus, to show this unique identity of our city Nicosia.

Filmed by local volunteers

This is one of five video reports on the European Heritage Days 2021. The reports are filmed by young local volunteers in Serbia, Cyprus, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. The five reports are a part of a scalable pilot project that provides insights into how the European Heritage Days are celebrated throughout Europe.
