This month, the German cities of Speyer, Worms and Mainz have applied for a joint nomination for the UNESCO title of "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity." The three cities all have a strong presence in the history of Jewish life in Europe and are riddled with significant places and cultural heritage. The area was known as "Jerusalem on the Rhine."
