Last February, the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) launched an international competition to reuse the Spanish Fortress in Herceg Novi, Montenegro, into a creative hub. More than 60 architects from Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia and Austria applied to the call before 10 April. The first prize, $ 15,000, was awarded to a team of architects from Montenegro.

The competition was part of the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro and the UNDP’s project ‘Creative Montenegro: Economic Valorisation and Creative Industries’. The project aims to promote the economic valorisation of cultural heritage, the development of creative industries and the growth of sustainable tourism.

The original article on the competition was posted (in Montenegrin) on Vijesti. More information about the project is available on the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro and the UNDP’s website.
