196 metres of the Berlin Wall, one of the longest parts of what remains has disappeared almost overnight.
The remains were demolished to to make way for luxury condominiums. This particular portion of the wall had no special historical designations so the developers did not have to adhere to any specific procedures. The Berlin Wall Foundation, established in 2008 to document the wall’s history and preserve its remains, says it was not informed about the removal.
