Paris has announced that it has taken a decisive step towards a UNESCO World Heritage status for the city’s famous bouqinistes, small booksellers. On February 20th, France’s Ministry of Culture has added the ancient practice to the national inventory, a required step form admission on the international list.
The Bouquinistes of Paris are booksellers of used and antiquarian books along large sections of the banks of the Seine river. The tradition exists wince the 18th century and today includes around 230 booksellers.
