French President Macron promised to protect heritage sites during European Heritage Days

Last weekend, France celebrated the European Heritage Days. Ahead of President Macron visit to Hôtel de Polignac in Condom, an 18th-century building in neoclassical style, President Macron reiterated his promise to protect heritage sites and museums.

Macron’s €100 billion coronavirus recovery plan includes €614 million for heritage sites and museums. More than half (€334 million) will support large museums, such as the Louvre Museum, the Palace of Versailles and the Musée d’Orsay.

Macron was accompanied by, among others, Stéphane Bern, initiator of the Loto du Patrimoine (the French Heritage Lottery). In 2018, Hôtel de Polignac was one of the eighteen heritage sites that received money from the Loto du Patrimoine. During his visit, Macron met with students and volunteers involved in the restoration of Hôtel de Polignac.
