On XNUMX October, the winners of the Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Awards XNUMX were announced. The annual awards enhance the visibility of European cultural tourism destinations, create a platform for sharing experience and knowledge and promote networking between destinations. The theme of the XNUMX edition of the Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Awards was ‘Special interest tourism development and promotion based on cultural heritage’.

The winners of the first prizes in the five categories are:

  • Industrial heritage: Alūksne Bānītis Station Multimedia Expo – Aluksne Tourism Information Centre, Latvia
  • Maritime, coastal and aquatic heritage: ​Via Francigena in the South – European Association of the Via Francigena Ways, Italy
  • Innovation and digitisation for sustainable cultural tourism towards smart destinations: BLUEMED Underwater Museums and Knowledge Awareness Centres – Region of Thessaly, Greece
  • Transnational thematic tourism products: Historic Cafés in the Iberian Peninsula – Portuguese Historic Cafés Association, Portugal and spain
  • Wine tourism: Vineyard Retreats – Vineyard Cottages Consortium, Slovenia
