On 22 October, the winners of the Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Awards 2020 were announced. The annual awards enhance the visibility of European cultural tourism destinations, create a platform for sharing experience and knowledge and promote networking between destinations. The theme of the 2020 edition of the Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Awardswas ‘Special interest tourism development and promotion based on cultural heritage’.
The winners of the first prizes in the five categories are:
Industrial heritage: Alūksne Bānītis Station Multimedia Expo – Aluksne Tourism Information Centre, Latvia
Maritime, coastal and aquatic heritage: Via Francigena in the South – European Association of the Via Francigena Ways, Italy
Innovation and digitisation for sustainable cultural tourism towards smart destinations: BLUEMED Underwater Museums and Knowledge Awareness Centres – Region of Thessaly, Greece
Transnational thematic tourism products: Historic Cafés in the Iberian Peninsula – Portuguese Historic Cafés Association, Portugal and spain
