The Copyright Community of the Europeana Network Association was recently surveyed to help gain a greater understanding of the key challenges professionals face around copyright and invite possible solutions. A blog post on Europeana gives us some great insights from the survey.
A number of shared issues for the sector emerged from the survey:
- Understanding copyright: the lack of copyright knowledge among cultural heritage professionals and an absence of training opportunities.
- Right clearance: the second most popular challenge was felt to be the difficulty of identifying the copyright status of collection items.
- Other challenges: survey participants expressed insecurity about how to use and interpret Creative Commons licences as well as Rights Statements.
