A model code of practice for safe diving operations has been jointly published by ICOMOS International Scientific Committee on the Underwater Cultural Heritage (ICUCH) and UNESCO UNITWIN Network for Underwater Archaeology as a way to reduce barriers to international partnership working. This model code of practice has been drafted by the latter to address a lack of consistent practices and a need for common language related to scientific archaeological diving, as identified by its members in the Network’s annual meeting in 2016 at UNESCO in Paris.

The ICOMOS International Committee on the Underwater Cultural Heritage (ICUCH), is one of the International Scientific Committees of ICOMOS and was founded to promote international cooperation in the protection and management of underwater cultural heritage and to advise ICOMOS on issues related to underwater cultural heritage around the world.
