ESACH meeting

Hello! My name is Carlota Marijuán Rodríguez and I am a graduate architect and member of the European Students’ Association for Cultural Heritage, or ESACH. Today, I want to share with you a little bit about our association, how we work and how you can get involved!

ESACH is a youth-led network of students and young professionals working within cultural heritage. Our goal is to increase collaboration amongst young people through networking and peer-to-peer learning and increase youth involvement in the heritage sector. ESACH was founded in 2017 on the occasion of the European Year of Cultural Heritage but, in spite of being only three years old, we have been able to do quite a lot!

ESACH is organized by a team of volunteers working together to create a young heritage movement in Europe. We collaborate with students, young professionals and institutions (like the European Heritage Tribune!) throughout Europe to create initiatives that will promote our core values, such as conferences, online events, publications and workshops. The association is made of students, emerging professionals and researchers with an interest in cultural heritage studies, with no restrictions based on education, nationality or place of residence. At the same time, our network includes working groups in the different cities and universities, which are independent student and youth associations that share ESACH’s values and represents us on a local or national level. You can check our website www.esach.org to see if your city or university has an ESACH Group. This whole network is managed by the coordination committee (to which I belong), which is elected every year based on voluntary applications.

As a European network, we have a program of online and presential events and publications. This academic year, we are developing an online conference series called ESACH Talks!, which features short presentations by members followed by a group discussion. We want ESACH Talks to become a regular event to connect students and young professionals across Europe and generate some interesting debates. Besides this, every year we hold a General Meeting in person, where everyone gets together in one of our host universities. Our 2020 Conference had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, but we are hoping to carry out the next one in Madrid in Spring 2021. Finally, the ESACH Book “Advances in interdisciplinary cultural heritage studies” will be out this autumn, featuring essays and articles written by students and young professionals.

For the next months, we will be featuring the presentations from our ESACH Talks in this blog. I am so excited to share with you the wealth and diversity of knowledge that lies in our network, and I hope you can accompany us on this journey!

If you liked what you read, don’t leave it at that. Visit www.esach.org and get involved. You can also follow us on social media or attend one of our ESACH Talks. We will be waiting for you!
