“With fake news on the rise and diversity under attack, we need more, not less funding for our creative minds”, says EP’s CULT committee chair Sabine Verheyen.

Verheyen says that the proposal put forth by European Council’s president Charles Michel will result in 20% cut in budget of Creative Europe compared to the Commission proposal and over 50% compared to the Parliament’s position. He requested the Heads of State and Government to not conclude any agreement on the basis of such a proposal which goes against what the Member States have agreed on several occasions to support culture and creative sectors.

The reduced budget will lead to fewer creative cooperation projects and severe compromise of the creative job sector.
