Today, cemeteries are being used in very diverse ways. We combine the care for the dead with a focus on new values, such as the care for our funerary heritage, the rising demands for recreation areas and a greener environment, the needs to enhance biodiversity and new ways to commemorate the deceased. All these elements create new challenges and issues for managers of (historic) burial grounds and heritage care takers, such as different ways of use, reuse and shared use.
The Association of Significant Cemetries in Europe Conference in Ghent aims to focus on these complex matters. Are you interested to participate in the ASCE Conference? We welcome you to submit an abstract of your paper before March 1st 2019.
The ASCE helps public and private organisations to promote European cemeteries and helps to raise awareness of the importance of significant cemeteries. For more information, see Stad.gent.
