What is a Climate Guard?
A Climate Guard is a trained heritage professional—working in government, heritage organisations, or related organisations—who has specialist, up-to-date knowledge of:
- European climate policy and legislation relevant to historic buildings
- Strategies for reducing the carbon footprint of heritage properties
- Practical, locally adapted solutions that respect cultural and architectural values
Climate Guards act as trusted links between policymakers and the people managing historic houses on the ground.
Who can join?
The training is open to:
- Professionals working for heritage agencies, government departments, or NGOs
- Owners, managers, and staff of historic houses and estates
- Consultants, architects, and engineers specialising in heritage projects
- Other professionals engaged in the preservation and sustainable use of historic buildings
How to become one
🔹 Live training in Mauerbach, Austria
📅 28–30 September 2025
A 3-day in-person workshop at a historic site, covering EU climate frameworks, energy efficiency strategies, and practical implementation tools for heritage properties.
🔸 Online course with certification
Later this year, take the training online at your own pace. Successful participants receive an official European certificate (ECQA standard) and join the growing Climate Guards network.
