Austria’s Supreme Court has just recently ruled that the former owner of the building where Adolf Hitler was born should only receive €810,000 in compensation, the amount initially offered by the government, and thus, ended the years-long legal battle.
Hitler was born in a rented apartment in the town of Braunau am Inn, on the border with Germany, in 1889. After the Second World War, the building was used for many different purposes and in recent years, it has increasingly become a pilgrimage site for neo-Nazis.
In 2016, the Austrian parliament voted to requisition
the property, but the government got into a dispute with the former owner over
