The tiny picturesque village once struggled with controlling the throng of tourists it attracted, now it wonders if it will ever be as popular again.
Nestled in Salzkammergut region with lakes and mountains to the east of Salzburg, the village attracted attention for its efforts to restrict the inflow tourists who outnumbered the residents whose population stood at 760. The village owes its popularity among its Asian tourists to a South Korean village which featured its replica in China. The authorities hope that its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and reputation will help its tourism dependent economy to revive after the pandemic.
